Kendama traces its lineage back to 16th-century France, where the game of bilboquet challenged players to catch a ball on a wooden cup or a spike. Carried by nobles and commoners alike, it was both pastime and display of skill.
By the 17th and 18th centuries, the bilboquet had spread across Europe, known as the “cup-and-ball” — a quiet contest of focus and dexterity. In the early 20th century, Japan reimagined and refined the object, adding side cups and formalizing tricks: the kendama was born.
From parlors to playgrounds, and now to global skill toy communities, the kendama evolved into a practice of balance, timing, and creativity. What began as a simple challenge became an endless discipline — a toy turned tradition, a game turned art.
The kendamas selected by Boolir are crafted for focus and flow, inviting both beginners and seasoned players into a world of balance in motion.
